September Meeting Minutes

BMW Motorcycle Riders Of the Emerald Coast, Meeting Minutes of Sept 24, 2022

The September meeting of the BMW Riders of the Emerald Coast was smartly brought to order at 9:35 on the 24th of September, by Prez Jon Kagan. Attendance was noteworthy, 32 folks sippin’ coffee and enjoying monster donuts!

Minutes from the August meeting were published on the Club Bulletin Board (behind the R-18 promo board), and accepted.

Our Treasurer, Steve Rome reported an account balance of $2703.08, with no recent income or payments. Steve encourages folks to pay dues, if applicable.

Prez Jon initiated the monthly Roll Call, requesting members to describe their most “unappreciated” piece of riding gear. Responses ran quite a spectrum: neck gaiter/balaclava, “dude” wipes, good gloves, Sky Med membership, Helite vest, Moto Jug hydration, phone charger, solar charger, cord gender changer, ear plugs, ear plugs, GPS, neck cooler, headband lamp, friends, ball cap, radar detector, patience, air pump, camelback. And of course, the MOA Anonymous Book !!!! Great responses all around!

Jon encouraged folks looking for some mid-week riding to join the “Bull Slough” (slew) guys, by getting on Rich La Sota’s text group (321.298.5234).

The MREC website project came up next, prompting a unanimous vote for Ted Moyer to be our Club point-of-contact (POC) to the MOA-sponsored site. Ted has been instrumental in developing this tool available to all of the MOA Chartered Clubs. VP Jim encouraged all members to submit stories/copy with or without photos to Ted for inclusion. Ted asked that input be sent to him at: ted@bmwmoa.org

Our MOA Prez, Reece Mullins, was also present at the September Meeting. Reece gave us a timely update of MOA resources, notably the Anonymous Book “app” that can be loaded on your smartphone. Reece mentioned that members have always received help in some manner when requested via the Anonymous Book. You are always connected to MOA Brethren while traveling.

Jim Hegman, new club member, and new Beemer guy asked to give an awesome “Attaboy” to the Adventure Service Department, after they came out, late in the day to rescue him from a roadside breakdown. The Club acknowledged how lucky we were to have such significant service folks, at the Dealership. Shep Brown reminded the Club, that it is up to us, to keep the local BMW healthy with regard to service and parts.

Upcoming events that were discussed included:

  • Dave Bakers’s announcement of upcoming Max Tours-Morocco on May 15, Ecuador in November. His Big Foot Ride will depart on October 16, contact Dave if interested.
  • The MOA’s first Motorrad Fest will be on Oct 8-10 in Lebanon, TN, hosting the first-ever BMW RTP competition, with many other moto events.
  • Rich and Norm have a group heading to Barber’s Vintagefest on 7-9 October, contact them if interested in joining their ride.
  • Club members were reminded that after next month's meeting, on 22 October, will be the Annual MREC Swap Meet, bring items to sell, and an appetite to enjoy Rich Haller’s grill skills !!!

Respectfully Submitted by Club Secretary and all-around good-guy, Shep Brown
